Known
Issues

1. Uploading Property details to the internet

To upload your property details to the Internet you need to click the WWW/Sync button in Universal. If you encounter problems when doing this and your properties are not showing on the Internet there can be several reasons.

The property must be in a status to be uploaded (e.g. draft/withdrawn/sold status properties are not uploaded).

If you have a firewall/virus protection such as Norton, then this may be stopping the information being uploaded. Your router (the box you connect to the Internet with) may also have built in firewall restrictions which may need setting/un-setting. Universal uses a protocol called FTP to upload to the Internet and this needs enabling in the firewall. Depending on the product you should be able to either enable FTP processing or in some cases the firewall may have an allowed list of programs that can access the Internet. Universal needs adding to this list(usually with this type of firewall the very first time Universal tries to access the Internet the firewall prompts to allow Internet access).

In the case of Norton (depending on the product/version):-

To PERMANANTLY change Norton to always allow the Sync to work:

1. Double click on the Norton Icon on your Windows status bar (bottom right of your screen) - click 'Intrusion Detection/Configure/Advanced' and uncheck 'FTP Path name Glob BufferOverflow' and click OK.

To TEMPORARILY disable Norton (you will have to do this each time you Sync):

1. Right click on the Norton Icon and take the Disable Norton option. A prompt may ask you how long to disable access....reply as appropriate.
2. Click Sync in Universal and ensure all processing completes successfully.
3. Right click on the Norton Icon and Enable Norton.

If this does not’t work then you may have to uninstall Norton from Windows/Control Panel (ensure you have the installation disks prior to uninstalling). When Norton is uninstalled click WWW/Sync in Universal. You should then re-install Norton and find the option to allow FTP processing.

2. SMS texting

If you cannot send a text via Universal ensure you have some credits available 'Tools/Send SMS/Credits tab - Enquire'. Credits can be purchased online or call the support desk. If you have credits but cannot send a text ensure:

1. You are connected to the Internet.

2. Your firewall/router allows text messaging and Universal is in the permission list if applicable.

To test if your firewall is stopping text messages, disable it then send a message and re-enable it. If this is the case you need to set the correct option in the firewall/router that allows SMS texts via Universal...contact your supplier.

3. Microsoft Word /Printing issues (Word/Office 2000 or better is required for printing via Universal)

If problems are encountered when trying to generate a document form Universal then your Word installation may have become corrupt (even if you can use Word normally outside Universal the corruption can still be present). To overcome this, load Word manually and click ‘Help/Detect and Repair’ – this may ask for the installation CD and Word will attempt to repair its installation. If this is unsuccessful and documents still cannot be generated uninstall/re-install Word (ensure you have the installation CD prior to uninstalling) from Windows control panel. Also ensure you have the latest Microsoft Word Service Pack installed. If mail merge tags are not being replaced correctly ensure the Word option ‘Tools/options/Edit tab - typing replaces selection’ checkbox is ticked.

If you are having problems generating documents or they are taking a long time to generate and you have Norton Antivirus software installed, ensure Options/Miscellaneous - Enable Office Plug in' is unchecked. With this option checked every time a Word document i opened Norton virus checks it, and this can cause Word problems.
